Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina makes history, emerges first runner-up at 73rd Miss Universe competition

Nigeria’s Chidimma Adetshina has made her country proud by finishing as the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe competition. 

The grand event, held at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico, brought together contestants from around the globe in a dazzling showcase of talent, intelligence, and grace.  

Ultimately, the title was awarded to Denmark’s representative, but Ms Adetshina’s remarkable achievement has been widely celebrated. 

The official Miss Universe Instagram account captured the excitement of the final moments on Sunday captioned “The final two! Nigeria and Denmark, two incredible women, one unforgettable moment.”

By her position, Ms Adetshina has also earned the title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, further solidifying her place as a role model and ambassador for the region.  

Ms Adetshina, a 24-year-old graduate of international relations from the University of Lagos, entered the competition as Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, earning her crown through her advocacy for education and youth empowerment. She is known for her poise and dedication to making a difference in her community, where she has been actively involved in initiatives that provide scholarships and mentorship programmes for underprivileged children.  

From captivating audiences in the national costume segment, where she paid tributes to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, to excelling in the question-and-answer round with her eloquent responses, Ms Adetshina showcased the qualities of a true global ambassador.  

The 73rd Miss Universe competition was a vibrant event filled with cultural exchange and entertainment, leaving a lasting impression on audiences worldwide. 

Ms Adetshina’s performance not only highlights her personal achievements but also reinforces Nigeria’s growing influence on the global stage.
