Nine casualties recorded in Texas after-prom party shootings

An after-prom party in Texas erupted in gunfire early Sunday morning, leaving nine people shot and wounded.
According to the Jasper county sheriff’s office, about 250 people were estimated to have been present at the time of the shooting.
The county sheriff’s office confirmed the incident in a Facebook post stating that police deputies responded to a disturbance with shots fired on County Road 263 north of Jasper County shortly after midnight.
“Upon arrival, nine victims were found to have non-life-threatening injuries,” the statement said. “The incident erupted at an after-prom party that was being held at the residence on County Road 263,” said the police. Most victims were transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital, and some were transferred to Christus St. Elizabeth for further treatment.”
According to the sheriff’s office, investigations are ongoing, and people of interest are being questioned.
The statement said further information would be released when available.
A second shooting within the city limits of Jasper, Texas occurred shortly after the first, the statement said.
There were no injuries in the second shooting, but a connection between the two incidents is being investigated due to a “common vehicle at both locations,” the police explained.
Jasper, a city of about 6,800 people, is located in the Deep East Texas subregion, about 40 miles west of the Texas-Louisiana state line.
