NIWA MD, managers sign performance bond to checkmate boat mishaps

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) general and area managers have signed a performance bond with the managing director, Bola Oyebamiji, after the authority’s 2025 two-day management retreat in Lokoja, Kogi.
Mr Oyebamiji said the bond was solely part of efforts to enhance safety on Nigeria’s waterways by reinforcing strict commitment to eradicating boat mishaps.
“This initiative highlights NIWA’s resolve to enforce safety regulations and improve operational efficiency across the nation’s inland waterways,” he said.
The managing director also inaugurated an emergency response committee tasked with swift interventions in the event of any maritime incident.
Mr Oyebamiji said the committee would work closely with stakeholders to ensure rapid response and proactive measures to mitigate risks on the waterways.
He expressed satisfaction with the retreat, describing it as timely and successful.
The NIWA boss, however, warned staff against indolence and sabotage of the revenue drive of the authority in its efforts to contribute to the growth and development of the country.
