The Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited has announced the completion of the second phase of funding for its school renovation initiative in Rivers.

Philip Mshelbila, managing director of NLNG, made the remark in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement, Mr Mshelbila spoke during the inauguration of two newly rehabilitated schools, Model Boys Secondary School, Omoku, and Community Secondary School, Amadi-Ama, Port Harcourt.

He stated that the projects were implemented in collaboration with the Rivers State Ministry of Education.

He explained that the initiative targeted infrastructure upgrades in schools within the company’s host community as part of its strategic commitment to strengthening education at the grassroots level.

“The completion of the second phase of the project marks a significant milestone in NLNG’s four-pillar Corporate Social Responsibility agenda, focused on sustainability, stakeholder engagement, partnership and shared prosperity.

“NLNG is deeply committed to ensuring the education of our young people, which we believe to be the greatest insurance for the future. This belief has been the guiding principle behind both our past and ongoing interventions,” he said.

Mr Mshelbila underscored the vital role of quality education in national development and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to human capital development and lasting community impact.

According to him, as we invest in educational infrastructure such as this, we are not only improving the learning environment but also planting the seeds for future leaders, innovators, and professionals.

He noted that the renovated facilities in both schools included re-equipped science laboratories, upgraded five junior and senior classrooms, and fully equipped male and female toilets.

Further upgrades include the refurbishment of four administrative blocks and the construction of a new administrative building for teachers and staff of the schools and NYSC lodges.

Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, permanent secretary at the Rivers State Ministry of Education, commended NLNG for its consistent commitment to the advancement of education in the state.

She praised the company’s long-standing vision in funding programmes that promote learning and empower educators.

“NLNG could have limited itself to its core business operations, but instead, it has chosen to lead with empathy and foresight, an example of corporate leadership our nation urgently needs,” Ms Uzoma-Nwogu said.
