Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta says the state government and military authorities have agreed that no innocent citizens will suffer from the outcome of the March 14 killing of soldiers.

Mr Oborevwori said this on Tuesday while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He said the unfortunate killings of military personnel had further exacerbated the feud between the two warring communities.

Commending the security operatives for the peace that Delta enjoyed last year, the governor said Mr Tinubu assured him of his adequate support.

“What is happening now is something that we didn’t bargain for. But we want to assure everybody that there will be no more attacks on the villages if any have happened in the past,” said Mr Oborevwori.

The governor assured that those culpable would be brought to justice and assured innocent citizens of safety.

He said that the state government and traditional leaders would meet next week to find a quick resolution to the issue on the ground.

Sixteen military personnel on a peace mission in a clash between the Okuama and Okoloba communities were killed on Thursday.

On the burning down of some villages in the affected communities, Mr Oborevwori said many opinions circulating about the incident were not true.

He said the government would provide succour for the families of the slain soldiers and give them a befitting burial.

“Anything that has happened in the community in the past will not happen again. We assure you that the culpable people will be brought to justice,” said the governor.
