The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has begun sensitisation exercise to raise awareness on the new National Anthem and national values charter in Bauchi state.

The director-general of the agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, said this at a news conference on Friday in Bauchi.

He said the exercise is part of the nationwide campaign aimed at rekindling national pride and unity as well as addressing the decline in patriotism and loyalty to the nation.

Represented by Nura Kobi, director planning research and strategy, NOA headquarters, Mr Issa-Onilu said the exercise would be conducted between October and December across the country.

“It’s to reorient Nigerians and rebuild their sense of duty to the nation, adding that the key components of the campaign focused on renewing national unity to foster a sense of shared identity and purpose among Nigerians.

“Encouraging citizens to take pride in their nationality and contribute to the country’s progress.

“Recognizing its significance beyond a ceremonial song, as a reflection of Nigeria’s struggles, aspirations, and commitment to justice and prosperity

“Upholding seven core promises from the government, including equality, peace, security, and meritocracy, while citizens reciprocate with values like discipline, patriotism, and integrity,” he said.

He urged Nigerians at home and diaspora to support the programme and contribute towards building a more united Nigeria.

“By singing the national anthem with pride, citizens can respond to the call to action and work together towards a peaceful and prosperous nation.”

Earlier, Theresa Omaga, the NOA director in the state, said the agency would conduct townhall meeting, media engagement and extend its outreach to communities and schools to educate Nigerians on the new anthem.

She said the agency would also work in collaboration with organisations, community and religious leaders to propagate core values to foster unity in the country.
