Nollywood actress threatens to sue United Nigeria Airlines over delayed flight

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bolaji Ogunmola has threatened legal action against United Nigeria Airlines following repeated flight delays and cancellations that she said disrupted the first day of her movie production.
Ms Ogunmola on Thursday took to her Instagram live to detail her experience at the airport.
She later shared the saved live video on her page, captioning it, “Dear @flyunitednigeria, I’ll be in touch.”
In the video, the actress explained that she was scheduled to fly from Ekiti State to Lagos State on Wednesday but was informed at the airport that her flight had been delayed and later cancelled.
She said, “I got to the airport and they said something happened. It was delayed. I waited and waited, and after a while they said they cancelled the flight.”
According to Ms Ogunmola, the airline officials failed to provide any alternative despite her explanation that she needed to be in Lagos for work.
“I said, ‘what’s the plan? I need to get to Lagos,’ and they said there’s nothing they can do,” she said.
She stated that Thursday marked the first day of production of her film, with the cast, crew, locations and logistics already in Ekiti State.
The filmmaker added that she invested over ₦20 million on the project.
“I’ve spent over ₦20 million trying to produce this film, and today is our first day at work,” she said.
Ms Ogunmola said she paid hotel bills overnight after being told the flight had been rescheduled for 8am on Thursday, only to encounter further delays on arrival at the airport.
“I woke up by 5am, got to the airport by 6:30, and they said it’s not 8am again, it’s 9:30. They moved it from 9:30 to 12, and now they’re saying 5:30,” she said.
“I’m doing this video so my lawyers can take it up. I have evidence of everything that has happened, and they are not remorseful,” she said.
Emotional during the video, the actress said the lack of communication and empathy from the airline was distressing.
“This is very painful because you could have just sent a message. It’s not only my time you are toying with, it’s my source of livelihood,” she said, breaking down in tears.
She added that she was left stranded in a state where she had limited personal connections and was forced to consider travelling by road to Lagos State despite safety concerns.
“I have to go by road, which is very unsafe, but I need to get to work,” she said, adding that her lawyers would be taking up the matter.
Prior to sharing the video, Ms Ogunmola had warned frequent flyers to avoid the airline, writing, “You are not only unprofessional, you are downright inhumane.”
In a separate post, she added that it was “sad in 2026 that basic human decency and service fully paid for doesn’t matter.”
