Rangers International FC of Enugu, on Sunday, defeated visiting Niger Tornadoes of Minna 1-0 in the Nigeria Premiere Football League week 14.

The match, played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu saw both teams approach the match with great intensity.

Rangers, however, had the upper hand, dictating the pace of the game most times.

Tornadoes, on the other hand, struggled to contain the home team but Rangers defence kept them at bay.

The Flying Antelopes continued piling the pressure but due to poor marksmanship, they were unable to get past the opponents.

The match ended goalless at halftime.

It, however, became a ding-dong affair on resumption of second half as both teams struggled to get the lead.

The home team eventually took the lead in the 70th minute, when Kenechukwu Agu, a.k.a Oloko, converted a free kick, a few meters outside the 18-yard box.

All efforts by the visiting team to level score were unsuccessful.

The victory moved Rangers to the fifth position on the 20-team log, after 14 matches

In the post match interview, the Coach of Niger Tornadoes, Maajin Mohammed, said “the game has been won and lost.

Mr Mohammed said, “In football, you win, you lose and you draw. We will go back and plan for the next game.”

Also, the stand-in Coach of Rangers, Ekene Ekenedilichukwu, said Niger Tornadoes team was not an easy side.

“We planned for the game and thank God won and we have picked the needed three points.

“It’s football and the most important thing is that we played well and got the three points,” Ekenedilichukwu said.

He assured the fans that the team would work hard to sharpen their scoring ability. (NAN)
