NSCDC arrests six suspected electricity cable vandals in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State command, says it has arrested six suspects for allegedly vandalising and stealing electricity equipment in the state.
The command’s public relations officer, Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Kano.
Mr Idris-Abdullahi said the suspects were arrested at Hayin Da’e, Hotoro, in the Tarauni Local Government Area, following credible intelligence from local vigilante groups.
He said that the suspects were apprehended with vandalised transformer cables believed to have been removed at midnight from a transformer in Hayin Da’e, Hotoro.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had been terrorising residents of Hayin Da’e, Farawa Kwanar Yashi and Hotoro Eastern Bypass through burglary, theft and vandalism of electricity installations.
“The corps has launched an investigation with a view to making further arrests, while suspects have already confessed to committing the crime.
“The suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation,” he said.
Mr Idris-Abdullahi assured that the command, under the leadership of Commandant Shafi’u Abdulmumini, would intensify surveillance and patrols to rid Kano of vandals and other criminal elements.
