Olatunde Maku, Anambra State commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Saturday urged personnel to ensure correct and safe weapon handling to prevent casualties.

Mr Maku made the call during a refresher course in Awka aimed at improving personnel’s marksmanship and weapon-handling skills.

According to him, even the slightest safety breach could have devastating consequences, resulting in casualties.

The commandant said the training aligned with the goals of the commandant-general, Ahmed Audi, which include developing professional, skilled, and gallant civil defenders.

“The goal of this training is to enhance personnel’s skills in weapon handling and create a highly effective and well-trained team.

“I urge you all to apply the knowledge and skills gained to effectively tackle security threats within your areas of responsibility,” he said.

Mr Maku said the exercise demonstrated the command’s commitment to improving personnel training, particularly in firearms handling and marksmanship.

The refresher course covered drills on firing positions, basic firearm use, and fundamental marksmanship principles, among other skills.
