NSCDC rescues woman attempting to die by suicide in Osun river

The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has rescued a middle-aged woman, who reportedly jumped into the Gbodofon River in Osogbo.
The woman who was said to have travelled to Osogbo, from Iragbiji, claimed she took the decision to end her life because she felt fire burning in her body, and had to quench the fire by jumping into the river.
The NSCDC spokesperson, Adeleke Kehinde, confirmed the suicide attempt in a statement on Wednesday, saying that officers of the command pulled the woman out of the river on Tuesday.
According to the command, the rescue came after it received a distress call that someone had jumped into the river.
The spokesperson said, “The search and rescue team of the command received a distress call from a member of the public and in less than 10 minutes, our officers were at the scene to rescue the victim. The victim, a middle-aged woman, was resuscitated and later taken to the hospital for medical attention.”
The NSCDC Commandant, Agboola Sunday, in the statement, commended the search and rescue team for being responsive and bringing their training in disaster management to bear.
