The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has trained 262 personnel on weapon handling, charging them to be disciplined and professional.

This is contained in a statement on Saturday by the Kogi State commandant of NSCDC, Esther Akinlade.

Ms Akinlade urged the officers to always uphold the ideals of the corps.

“You must demonstrate a high sense of humour, discipline, and professionalism in your service to the nation after this successful round-up of the range classification exercise,” she said.

Ms Akinlade noted that it was imperative for officers and men to acquaint themselves with the latest skills in weapon handling following the trend of attacks on security personnel, security formations, critical national assets and infrastructure.

“This necessitated the need for training and retraining of personnel on weapon handling,” she said.

The commandant said the personnel underwent rigorous and intensive training for six weeks after satisfying the basic forensic and medical requirements before embarking on a shooting range classification.

She added that the officers were drilled in conformity to arms training, both on the G3 and AK-47 rifles.

Ms Akinlade said there was a need for strict adherence to an acceptable standard of operation in the corps. She warned against misuse or conduct that negated the ethics of firearms.

She lauded the commandant-general, Ahmed Audi, for putting in place policies and strategies for the corps to succeed.
