NSITF threatens to sue NLC over Abuja land dispute

The dispute between the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund over ownership of two plots of land in Abuja has deepened, with the latter threatening to take legal action against NLC
The NLC and the NSITF are claiming ownership of two plots of land numbered MISC 54707 and MISC 54824 in Abuja.
In a statement in Abuja on Friday, Head of Corporate Affairs of NSITF, Alexandra Mede, said the Fund “will involve the appropriate authorities to resolve the matter in accordance with the law”
Ms Mede was reacting to a statement by the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, that the congress “does not only own the plots of land in question, but it is also in possession of the relevant documents.”
The NLC claimed that the two plots of land belonged to them and the Certificates of Occupancy were in their possession.
Recall that the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NSITF, Oluwaseun Faleye, issued a notice that the plots also belonged to the fund.
He, however, said that the NSITF lost the C of O, power of attorney, and deed of assignment of the plots.
She said, “NSITF has taken note of the press release by the Nigeria Labour Congress in reaction to our recent publication relating to plots referenced under file numbers MISC 54707 and MISC 54824. The Fund reaffirms its position as stated in its previous publication and maintains full confidence that the appropriate authorities will resolve the matter in accordance with the law.’’
On his part, Mr Ajaero, described the notice by the NSITF as “mischievous, utterly ridiculous and possibly a product of sheer ignorance.”
