NUC approves 2,000 students for Fortune varsity

The National Universities Commission has approved an increase in the student quota from 800 to 2,000 for the 2025/2026 academic session admission into the University of Fortune, Igbotako, Okitipupa LGA, Ondo.
The NUC’s approval was contained in a letter dated January 28, signed by Abubakar Gerei, the acting director of planning on behalf of Abdullahi Yusufu-Ribadu, the executive secretary of the commission, addressed to the registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board for notification.
The letter said, “I am directed to the registrar that the executive secretary has approved an upward review of the admission quota for the University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State, from 800 to 2,000 with effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.
“The increase is as a result of information of improved human and material resources available to the commission. The registrar is requested to kindly note this development and grant the institution all the privileges pertaining to this approval, including student admission.”
The NUC, however, assured the university of its continued support as it expands its academic offerings in line with the extant national standards.
The NUC had approved 17 undergraduate degree courses for the 2025/2026 academic session in December 2025.
The approved programmes spanned four faculties.
At the Faculty of Science and Computing, students can study information and communication technology, computer science, and cybersecurity.
The Faculty of Social and Management Sciences would offer accounting, finance, economics, international relations, criminology and security studies, hospitality and tourism management, project management, procurement management and intelligence and security studies.
The Faculty of Basic Medical and Allied Health Sciences will offer public health, nursing science and radiology, while the Faculty of Law has been cleared to run the LL.B. Law programme.
Mr Ibrahim, however, said that the University of Fortune was established to expand access to quality tertiary education, with a vision to deliver professional, innovative and globally competitive graduates.
He urged students seeking admission to the new courses to register for them on the 2025/2026 JAMB form.
