As the yuletide draws nearer, the acting director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Christy Uba, has warned youth corps members against unauthorised journeys and night trips.

She gave the warning during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream 2 orientation course in Abuja on Tuesday.

Ms Uba, represented by the FCT NYSC coordinator, Suleman Abdul, said travelling at night would not only

increase the risk of accidents, but also make rescue difficult.

“You are, therefore, advised to always cut short your trips from six o’clock in the evening and pass the night at NYSC lodges, military barracks and other locations officially designated as safe,” she said.

Ms Uba added, “Furthermore, you should board vehicles only at approved motor parks so as to avoid falling into the hands of criminals.”

The director-general also said as the NYSC members are posted to places of primary assignment, they should sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience imbibed during the orientation course.

She expressed the hope that they would strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing toward the progress and development of the country.

She also enjoined them to undertake personal and community development service projects that would uplift the living standard of their host communities.

Ms Uba appealed to youth corps member’s employers to always accept those posted to them and make necessary provisions for their welfare.

The three-week orientation course, which opened on November 30, had 3,445 youth corps members comprising 1,253 males and 2,192 females in the FCT Kubwa camp.
