The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reiterated its commitment towards providing adequate security for corps members posted to Borno for their mandatory national service.

Muhammed Adamu-Jiya, NYSC Coordinator in the state, restated the commitment during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch A stream ‘l’ orientation course on Friday in Katsina.

Corps members deployed to Borno for the three-week exercise have been camping in Katsina due to the security challenges in the northeastern state.

Mr Adamu-Jiya advised corps members to remain calm during their service, saying the security situation in the state had improved significantly.

He, however, urged them to be security- conscious at all times as security is every one’s business.

“You should avoid acts that can endanger your lives such as staying out late, attending night parties, visitation to dangerous places, and accepting car rides and gifts from strangers.

“On our part, we are committed to making adequate provisions for your security and general welfare in line with the policy thrust of the current administration.

“Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders with a view to ensuring your safety as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilling service year,”he said.

Mr Adamu-Jiya said reports on corps members’ participation in the entrepreneurial training conducted in camp under the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme had been impressive.

He encouraged them to build on the skills acquired by availing themselves of opportunities for post-camp training.

The coordinator said doing so would go a long way in empowering them for self-reliance.

“On our part, we will continue to liaise with financial institutions and other stakeholders with a view to providing start-up loans to enable you to actualise your business dreams.

“I assure you that NYSC management will continue to explore avenues for optimising the impact of the programme.

“Hence, you should be good ambassadors of the scheme as well as your families and institutions of graduation.

“You must be wary of acts that can portray the scheme in bad light, especially drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime, advanced-fee-fraud and spreading of fake news,” he said,
