Obi slams Tinubu’s govt, says repeated national grid collapse sign of leadership failure

Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has decried frequent collapse of the national power grid, describing it as a national shame and a sign of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership failure.
“For the umpteenth time, the national grid has collapsed, plunging a huge part of the nation into darkness and exposing the fragility of Nigeria’s power infrastructure. This recurring disaster is a national shame and a glaring testament to the failure of leadership and policy implementation at the highest levels,” Mr Obi said.
In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, Mr Obi attributed the latest collapse of the national grid to failed leadership.
He added that the latest power grid collapse was emblematic of a leadership and government that consistently failed to prioritise the welfare and economic well-being of the people.
“Today, we are the fourth largest economy in Africa, having fallen from the number one position due to leadership failure over the years, including the persistent power crisis, which is critical when compared to smaller economies,” Mr Obi said.
Mr Obi’s criticism was on the heels of the collapse of the country’s national power grid twice within 24 hours plunging the country into blackout and disrupting commercial activities.
Power outages are normal in Nigeria despite several billions of naira pumped into the electricity sector..
