Ogun APC adopts Yayi as consensus candidate for 2027 governorship race

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, adopted the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship race in the state.
According to a video clip from the meeting, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, declared Mr Adeola, popularly called Yayi, as the consensus choice, during a strategic caucus meeting, held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.
The party, in a statement issued earlier, explained that the gathering was part of a necessary effort to foster unity, review current political developments, as well as chart a visionary pathway in the state.
Addressing caucus members at the meeting, Mr Abiodun stated that nothing else would gladden him than to pass the baton of leadership in the state to a successor from Ogun West Senatorial District, who also doubles as a member of the APC.
“It gives me great pleasure and on behalf of all of you to congratulate Senator Adeola as our consensus and unanimously selected governorship candidate for the year 2027,” Mr Abiodun said.
“I am so overjoyed about the level of maturity that has been displayed at this meeting this evening. The level of political magnanimity that has been displayed by everyone here this evening,” he said.
The governor, however, tasked stakeholders at the meeting to return to their constituencies and ensure the party’s victory in the forthcoming governorship race.
“So let us remember that just because we now have a candidate does not translate to the fact that we have won the election. We need to now go and prepare for how to win the election,” he stated.
