The police, on Monday, arraigned Ademuyiwa Femi, 65, before the Ota Magistrates’ Court for stealing an iron gate valued at N100,000.
Mr Femi is facing a two-count charge of stealing and malicious damage.
The prosecutor, E.O.Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others, still at large, committed the offences on May 25 at about 10:00 p.m. at Itele Awori, Ota.
Mr Adaraloye alleged that the defendant and his accomplices conspired to steal an iron gate valued at N100,000 belonging to the complainant, Adekunle Kehinde.
He added that they also damaged a fence while attempting to steal the iron gate.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 451 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The magistrate said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
