Ogun security guard arraigned for stealing

A 34-year-old security guard, Mohammed Ahmed, on Thursday appeared before the Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun over alleged theft of items worth N5 million.
Mr Ahmed, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others still at large allegedly committed the offences on July 15 at Mr Ahmed’s mechanic workshop located at Iyana Ilogbo, Ota.
Mr Adaraloye alleged that Mr Ahmed, while serving as a security guard at the workshop, conspired with others to steal six adaptors, eight containers of hydraulic oil, three pumping cartridges and other items estimated at N5 million.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with a surety in like amount.
She ruled that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and provide evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
The case was adjourned until August 10 for further hearing.
