Okowa, Datti call for outright cancellation of presidential election

Ifeanyi Okowa and Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice presidential candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party, are urging the complete annulment of the results of the presidential election held on Saturday.
Mr Okowa and Mr Baba-Ahmed held a joint press conference at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja Tuesday afternoon.
Citing irregularities and alleged manipulation of the results, the duo asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to annul the elections.
Before now, the Labour Party, PDP and ADC had asked the INEC chair, Mahmood Yakubu, to step down from his position and demanded that fresh elections be conducted.
The election has been marred by controversies following INEC’s refusal to upload results of polling units to its portal.
Some party agents, led by the PDP, staged a walkout from the International Conference Centre, Abuja, on Monday, over what they described as electoral irregularities on the part of INEC.
On Tuesday, the PDP, Labour Party and ADC held a joint press conference calling for the cancellation of the presidential poll and the removal of INEC’s chair, Mahmood Yakubu.
