A former Deputy Senate President, representing Delta Central, Ovie Omo-Agege, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) after losing the senatorial primary election.

Mr Omo-Agege made the disclosure in a letter dated May 22, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of Orogun Ward 2, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

He said, “I hereby resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress, effective immediately. After reviewing recent developments in the party in Delta State and consulting with my associates and supporters, it is clear my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the APC.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.

“I thank the party for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the APC well and request that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists.

“My focus remains on delivering development and effective representation for Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria. I will pursue these goals outside the APC,” he noted.

Mr Omo-Agege’s resignation came days after he lost the primary election of the party in Delta Central, to incumbent Senator, Ede Dafinone, in a direct primary conducted on Monday, in all the Local Government Areas in the senatorial district.

According to the secretary of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee for Delta State, Nusa Amagbor, Mr Dafinone polled 116,252 votes, to defeat Mr Omo-Agege who got 3,643 votes.
