Ondo 2024: My life is under threat, APC governorship aspirant raises alarm

Paul Akintelure, a governorship aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, has raised an alarm over an alleged threat to his life ahead of the governorship election.
“Initially, I hope these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life,” Mr Akintelure said in a statement on Thursday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the governorship election for November 16, 2024.
Mr Akintelure said he was compelled to voice out and address a matter of grave concern with a heavy heart concerning threats to his life.
He explained that with the recent ‘unsettling event’ in the state, there have been both direct and indirect attempts on his person.
The copy of the scanting statement, signed by his spokesperson, Oladapo Akintelure, was obtained by Peoples Gazette in Akure.
Although, Mr Akintelure said he had reported to the security agents about the threat, the development came a few days after the leadership of APC released the timetable and schedule of activities for the party’s primary.
The ruling party had pegged 50 million naira for the sale of its expression of interest and nomination forms for the aspirants jostling for its ticket.
The primary has been fixed for April 25 by the party.
At least, no fewer than 15 aspirants have shown interest in governing the state under the APC.
Noting that he will not be intimidated by the threat, Mr Akintelure said he has engaged in necessary consultations with agencies entrusted with the safety of lives and properties.
He, however, added that he has received the intelligence reports and recommendations.
“The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward.
“Let us embrace peace, progress and unity. Our collective strength lies in our to stand together as one, regardless of our differences,” Mr Akintelure pleaded.
The Gazette reports that the build-up to the Ondo governorship election has continued to gather momentum.
