Ondo: APC suspends Senator Jimoh Ibrahim

Jimoh Ibrahim, senator representing Ondo South in the National Assembly, has been suspended from the All Progressives Congress over alleged “insubordination and anti-party activities.”
A letter signed by 16 members of the party executive from his Igbotako ward II, in Okitipupa local government area, on Wednesday contained Mr Ibrahim’s suspension from the APC.
“We have found Senator Jimoh Ibraham’s actions and activities to be in violation of the party’s constitution, particularly his decision to sue the party as well as his and the party’s activities.
“As such We have resolved to take appropriate disciplinary action against him as outlined in the party’s constitution. Senator Jimoh Folorunso Ibrahim is hereby suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect for acts of insubordination and anti-party activities. In accordance with Article 21, Section A of APC Constitution,” the letter explained.
The senator was among the 14 other APC governorship aspirants who jostled for the ruling party’s ticket with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the April 20 shadow election.
However, Mr Aiyedatiwa won the APC primary and emerged as the governing party’s governorship candidate for the November 16 election.
After the primary was held in the 18 LGAs, Mr Ibrahim described the exercise as a “mega fraud” and said no election was held.
The senator immediately went to court to challenge the primary process, demanding that it be cancelled and that it be conducted fresh.
However, the party’s executive ward members have further alleged that Mr Ibrahim has advised his supporters in Igbotako to leave the APC and join the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The letter added, “Additionally he has engaged in anti-party activities by urging his supporters in Igbotako and Ondo State to join NNPP, claiming he will soon receive the gubernatorial ticket from them. Senator Ibrahim has openly declared his intent to disrupt APC before leaving the party, as evidenced by his actions in the Federal High Court in Abuja and his derogatory remarks about APC in various media outlets.
“For emphasis, Senator Jimoh Folorunsho Ibrahim has been suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect, and he is hereby prohibited from participating in any APC activities nationwide.”
Peoples Gazette could not immediately reach Mr Ibrahim for comments.
Banji Okuomo, the Ondo senator’s spokesperson, told The Gazette that he was unaware of the suspension letter.
“I’m not aware of any suspension letter, and we have not been communicated, please,” Mr Okuomo said briefly.
