Youths in Ondo State, particularly fans of late Nigerian artiste Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka “Mohbad”, have joined their counterparts in other states to protest his death.

The protest came a day after Lagos State Police Commissioner Idowu Owohunwa inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the artiste.

Mohbad, 27, died a few weeks after he had petitioned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police heading the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Lagos, over threats to his life by socialite Sam Larry and thugs who allegedly attacked him with guns, cutlasses and other weapons while shooting a video with Zlatan. Several videos accusing singer Naira Marley of threatening Mohbad also surfaced after his death.

Peoples Gazette reports that protesters poured on the street on Tuesday evening and clad in black attire in honour of the late singer.

Armed with different placards bearing descriptions, the demonstrators chanted “Justice for Mohbad.”

Some placards with inscriptions read: “Say No to Marlian Music”, “Justice for Mohbad”, “We want a coroner’s inquest into Mohbad death”, among several others.

Armed security men, comprising the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), were also observed as the youths marched through NEPA, Arakale and Oba Adesida roads.

The Gazette observed that the protest caused heavy traffic across the town’s major streets.

One of the protesters, Ajulo Sunday, revealed that the demonstration’s essence was to pressure the security agencies to unravel the cause of Mohbad’s death.

“The untimely passing of Mohbad has shed light on the numerous issues within the music industry. His death should serve as a warning to other music record labels that promote bad behaviour.

“We want the police to deploy all forensic, technical and other vital assets that are relevant to the investigation of homicide cases of this nature towards supporting their investigation process because we want justice for Mohbad,” he said.

Another protester, Awolumate Iremide, pleaded with the police to work on the petition, indicting Sam Larry and Naira Marly, among several other artistes, in the cause of the death of Mohbad.
