One dead as wildfires sweep Albania, force evacuations near coast
One person has died as wildfires rage across large parts of Albania, the Defence Ministry in Tirana said on Wednesday.
The victim was killed in the central town of Gramsh.
Firefighters, soldiers and police have been working around the clock, using helicopters to battle the flames.
In the small town of Delvina, about 10 kilometres from the Adriatic coast, both residential buildings and a hospital had to be evacuated.
In neighbouring Montenegro, crews from Serbia, Croatia and Italy are fighting fires, with additional assistance expected from Austria and Hungary.
The worst-hit area is the coastal strip between Piper and Buljarica.
Montenegro reported on Tuesday the death of a soldier participating in firefighting operations.
