One killed as gunmen attack police station in Anambra
A police station in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra, was yesterday attacked by unknown gunmen, leaving one person dead.
The police spokesman in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the attack in a statement to Peoples Gazette.
Mr Ikenga said; “Today 13/2/2023, by 2:15 am, Police Operatives foiled an attack by armed men on the Ogidi Police station, demobilize one of the armed men, and recovered many expanded cartridges and 25 liters of PMS.
“The hoodlums/arsonists came in their numbers with an unmarked Toyota Hiace bus, a Toyota Hilux, and three motorcycles started shooting indiscriminately and attempted to gain access in Ogidi Police Station, Idemili North.
“They were fiercely resisted by Police Officers on duty, and due to the superior gunfire of the operatives, the hoodlums flee the scene while one of the armed men was neutralized by the operatives.
“The Police facility is intact, and no casualty was recorded on the side of the Police.
“The area has been reinforced by the Tactical teams of the command, and Police operation is still ongoing. Further details shall be communicated, please.”
The police command in Anambra has continued to witness series of attacks on its various facilities in the state.
This recent incident is the fifth time in the month of February, that unknown assailants would attack the command.
