One thousand Civil Defence officers deployed for Easter in Akwa Ibom

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom Command, says it has deployed 1,000 personnel to ensure a hitch free Easter celebration across the state

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom Command, says it has deployed 1,000 personnel to ensure a hitch free Easter celebration across the state.

The State Commandant, Abidemi Majekodunmi, stated this in a statement in Uyo on Wednesday.

Mr Majekodunmi said that the personnel would be deployed to strategic locations across the state to protect lives and critical government infrastructure..

“The deployment is a proactive measure to ensure that the peace enjoyed in the state is sustained all through the Easter festivities.

“The personnel were drawn from the Command’s Armed squad, Agro Ranger, Counter Terrorism, Special female squad, Anti-vandal units and the department of Intelligence operations.

“The personnel amongst other things are to work toward the prevention of crimes and crowd control in strategic places of activities within the state such as:churches, parks, malls and recreational centres,” Mr Majekodunmi said.

Mr Majekodunmi said the patrol teams had been constituted to patrol various identified hot spots within the state.

The commandant directed all area commanders, divisional officers and the heads of tactical squads to ensure effective policing of their immediate environments, paying attention to public places, worship centres and institutions.

He admonished the personnel to display utmost professionalism in the discharge of their duties, warning that anyone found wanting would be decisively dealt with.

Mr Majekodunmi who wished the good people of Akwa Ibom a joyous Easter celebration also sued for tolerance, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence amongst all those resident in the state.
