Governors Ben Ayade of Cross River, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, and Samuel Ortom of Benue have called on political leaders to embrace ethics and fairness in ensuring peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

The governors noted that this was pertinent to ensure development, as well as overcome the country’s challenges.

“Leaders at all levels should be guided by a sense of justice and fairness in managing the affairs of the country,” Mr Ortom said in his goodwill message signed by his media aide, Nathaniel Ikyur, to commemorate the 2022 Easter celebration.

He added, “An atmosphere of peace and cooperation between the government and the governed is the needed ingredient for any development or progress of any nation.”

Mr Ayade, in his Easter message signed by his aide, Christian Ita, maintained that it was only through a show of love and compassion for one another that Nigerians could navigate through the present difficult times.

“As Nigerians, if we inculcate these virtues in our daily life, they will help us navigate the present difficulties,” Mr Ayade said.

While urging politicians to put God first and embrace politics with ethics as political activities leading to the 2023 general elections draw closer, Mr Ayade noted that Easter is the veritable season for deep introspection and soul-searching.

“I, therefore, call on politicians to put God first, think Nigeria first, play by the rules and adopt politics with ethics as political activities leading to the 2023 general election hot up,” he said.

On his part, the Nasarawa governor, in a statement on Saturday in Lafia, urged Christians to use this period to reflect on the sound teachings of Christ, which epitomised forgiveness, sacrifice and tolerance.

He said Nigerians should pray for God’s intervention on the spate of security challenges bedevilling the country and the continuous socio-economic development.
