The Nigerian duo of Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala have been nominated for the Men’s Best Player and Women’s Best Player categories for the 2024 Dubai Globe Soccer Awards.

Osimhen and Oshoala’s nominations were unveiled on Tuesday by the annual awards ceremony as part of the 30-man and 20-woman shortlists for the Men’s Best Player and Women’s Best Player categories, respectively.

The Napoli forward, who scored 26 league goals as the Italian club won the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years, was nominated in the Men’s Best Player of the Year alongside football heavyweights Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

Osimhen won the Emerging Player of the Year at the 2022 awards edition.

Ten players from Manchester City’s treble-winning squad, including Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Ruben Dias, Ederson, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, IIkay Gundogan, Rodri and Bernardo Silva, were also nominated.

Meanwhile, Oshoala, who played a vital role as Barcelona women’s clinched the league title and the UEFA Women’s Champions League title last season, will tango teammates Aitana Bonmati, Mali Leon, Fridolina Rolfo, Salma Paralluelo and others for the Women’s Best Player of the Year honour.

Voting commenced on Tuesday, and football fans worldwide can have their say on who should be shortlisted for 11 of the 16 main categories, as well as four digital awards using their performances throughout the 2023 calendar year, by voting at vote.globesoccer.com until December 7.

The final shortlists will then be voted on between December 12 and 28, both by fans and Globe Soccer’s Official Jury, made up of more than 30 key football industry figures, including Francesco Totti, Iker Casillas, Luis Figo, and Marcello Lippi.

The 2024 awards ceremony will come up on January 19, next year, in the United Arab Emirates.
