Osun NSCDC nabs man for vandalising rail tracks

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun command, has arrested a suspect who allegedly vandalised rail tracks in the state.
The suspect, 24, a resident of Abidogun area, Ota-Efun, Osogbo, and one other still at large, allegedly committed the offence on Nov. 17 at Dagbolu Area in Ifeloodun LGA of Osun.
A statement by Igbalawole Sotiyo, NSCDC commandant in Osun, made available to journalists in Osogbo on Friday, said that the suspect vandalised the rail tracks, using a hammer to remove the Pandrol clips.
“The following day, Nov. 18, the suspects were caught in the act, vandalising the rail track and one of the suspects was arrested while his friend escaped.
“In his confessional statement, the suspect made it known that his friend that escaped taught him how to remove the Pandrol clips, which they usually sold to metal scrap buyers.” Mr Sotiyo said
The NSCDC boss frowned at the increasing cases of vandalism of national assets in the country and advised those buying metal scraps to ascertain the sources of their wares before buying.
The commandant said that the command would soon initiate an operation to scrap markets in the state and anyone found in possession of rail tracks and other vandalised assets would face the full wrath of the law.
He also commended members of the public for being security conscious, saying the arrest was made possible through information received from residents of Dagbolu.
Mr Sotiyo solicited more intelligence from the public to make the state safe for everyone.
