The Nigerian Police Force has barred participation of Amotekun and other non-state security actors in the Osun off-cycle  governorship election on Saturday.

A statement on Friday by Ani Iniedu, the Force spokesman, also said that a restriction of movement had been imposed from 12:00 a.m. on Saturday until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

He stated, “No non-state security group, vigilante organization or other unauthorized body is permitted to assume or exercise the functions of a recognized security agency.

“Accordingly, such groups are directed to stay away from election-related security operations and refrain from any activity capable of intimidating voters, disrupting the electoral process or undermining public peace and security.”

Mr Iniedu urged members of the public to comply fully with the restriction and cooperate with security personnel deployed across the State.

“Only persons and categories of movement specifically exempted by the appropriate authorities will be permitted during the period.

“Political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders are advised to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly and refrain from any act capable of causing violence or disrupting the electoral process,” he noted.
