The police command in Ogun says it killed two alleged kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle in an operation following the abduction of Prince Idris of Okun Owa.

A statement on Thursday by the command’s spokesman, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said Mr Idris was abducted on June 30 at about 7:30 p.m. at his residence at Okun Owa.

“As a result of sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers, the victim regained his freedom unharmed on 3rd July, 2026.

“Following the victim’s release, operatives intensified efforts to apprehend the kidnappers. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis,” he said.

Mr Babaseyi said the suspects opened fire on the operatives upon sighting them, leading to a gun battle. He said the police responded decisively, killing two suspected kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.

He said a search of the slain suspects led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two phones, a bag suspected to have been used for collecting ransom, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation.

The spokesperson added that the bodies of the slain suspects had been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits.

He urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons or activities through the command’s emergency channels.
