The Oyo State government has declared Tuesday a work-free day to commemorate and celebrate the new Islamic calendar year, Hijrah 1448AH.

This is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan by the state commissioner for information and civic orientation, Dotun Oyelade.

According to Mr Oyelade, the state government recognises the importance of the Hijrah in the lives of Muslims.

“Hijrah marks the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD; it is considered a significant event in Islamic history, and it is a time for reflection, prayer, and community spirit.

“As a gesture of respect and solidarity with the Muslim community, the government has declared Tuesday a work-free day in the state,” the commissioner said.

Mr Oyelade urged Muslim faithful to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state and the nation.

He urged residents to use the opportunity to reflect on the teachings of the Hijrah, pray for the well-being of the state and the nation, and come together in the spirit of solidarity and brotherhood.
