Oyo police nab suspected car thief in Ibadan

The Oyo State police command has arrested a suspected car thief caught in the act of dismantling a Toyota vehicle’s brain box and other crucial parts in Ibadan.
The command, in a post on X on Wednesday, said the suspect attempted to dismantle the vehicle after using a master key to break into it but was unable to start the ignition before bystanders caught him.
The police said, “On the evening of October 4th, 2025, at around 6 p.m., Akeem ‘M’ parked his Toyota Vehicle, with the registration BDJ 44 BG, right next to a popular pharmacy on Queen Elizabeth Road in Ibadan.
“Little did he know, a crafty thief—on the prowl for cars parked in vulnerable spots—swooped in as soon as Akeem walked away. Using a cleverly made master key, this suspect managed to break into the vehicle.
“However, when he tried to start the ignition, his plan hit a snag. Frustrated, he began to dismantle the car’s brain box and other crucial parts. But thanks to some watchful bystanders who spotted the thief in action, an alarm was raised, bringing nearby police to the scene.
“The quick response led to the swift capture of the would-be car thief, turning what could have been a successful heist into a failed adventure.”
