The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation and intensified security presence in Ikoyi-Ile, Orire Local Government Area of the state, following a handwritten note by suspected bandits threatening to attack the town.

In a statement on Saturday, its spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the police command has activated its intelligence, tactical, and operational response architecture to address the report.

The police said the note, written in both Yoruba and English and suspected to have been authored by bandits, was reportedly dropped in front of a residential building in the town.

A copy of the note, which has gone viral, indicated that the attack was planned for January 20, 2026.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that it has received credible information regarding a handwritten note, written in both Yoruba and English languages, allegedly dropped in front of a residential building in Ikoyi-Ile, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State,” the statement read.

It added, “The note is purported to have been authored by suspected bandits, threatening an attack on the Ikoyi-Ile community.”

The command stated that the State Intelligence Department (SID) and tactical unit have commenced intensive debriefing of all persons connected with the discovery of the note.

It noted that it has taken visible security measures, including armed patrols, stop-and-search operations, intelligence, surveillance, and strategic area dominance, to halt the planned attack.

“Police personnel are currently on 24-hour high alert, with sustained ground presence to deny criminal elements any opportunity to operate or exploit the situation,” the statement noted.

“The area command has equally been directed to maintain constant supervision and continuous patrol coverage across the affected axis,” it stated.

The police said a thorough, intelligence-driven investigation is ongoing to determine the origin, authenticity, and intent of the handwritten note.

“The command wishes to state unequivocally that every lead is being pursued, and no effort will be spared in uncovering the truth behind this threat and ensuring that any individuals or groups found responsible are decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” the police noted.

The command urged Ikoyi-Ile residents to continue their lawful activities while remaining vigilant, promptly reporting any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
