Panic as petrol price hits N617 per litre at NNPC, other filling stations in Abuja

There are indications that fuel scarcity has returned in Abuja, the nation’s capital, as petrol is sold at N617 per litre in several filling stations, including NNPC outlets.
Peoples Gazette observed that fuel queues had returned at some filling stations in Abuja and Lagos. Some are closed down due to the petrol hike.
In the Kubwa district of the FCT, the Eternal petrol station was selling for N617 per litre at the time of filing this report.
Queues had built up in many petrol stations in the Lugbe district of Abuja, with many also selling fuel at N617 per litre.
After President Bola Tinubu’s inaugural pronouncement that “fuel subsidy is gone, ” petrol pump prices have continued to skyrocket.” Prices jumped from about N200 to over N500.
Many groups have commended the prompt action by the president for the removal of the petrol subsidy, which experts said had drained billions of dollars from the country’s economy.
The Gazette reported that the data analytic platform Picodi.com showed that petrol price in Nigeria became more expensive – at 163 per cent – in the first six months of 2023.
NNPCL spokesman Garba Deen Muhammad could not be immediately reached for comments on the spike in petrol prices.
