A ferry with 17 passengers en route to Ebute Ero from Ikorodu in Lagos State capsized on Monday, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) said.

The general manager, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said in a statement in Lagos that the incident happened at about 7:00 a.m.

He said the incident, which occurred around the Third Mainland Bridge, close to the Bariga ferry terminal, involved a commercial passenger ferry named Fazma logistics.

Mr Emmanuel said all the passengers were, however, rescued by first responders, including officers of the LASWA.

He said the boat was recovered immediately while the boat captain was being interrogated, and an investigation was ongoing.
