The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) will partner with the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and other relevant agencies on the federal government’s safe school programme.

The national chairman of the PCRC, Mogaji Olaniyan, said this on Saturday in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu.

Mr Olaniyan said the PCRC would make the job of the NPF easier by installing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in some schools, starting with those in the suburbs.

“What we want to do now is to join the Inspector-General (I-G) of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, other security agencies and the NPF to support the Safe School Project.

“We are doing very fine on it and I have promised the I-G and the Nigerian police 10,000 volunteers that will be deployed to schools in print as soon as schools reopen.

“We are currently engaging with Parent Teachers Associations (PTAs) of schools as well as community leaders on ways to support the force and other relevant agencies to make the environment of our schools safe.

“Our target as PCRC on this project is to do the best we can and solicit for support from relevant organisations,” he said.

The PCRC boss also told the visiting police spokesman that part of the committee’s ongoing national secretariat building project would be completed in December.

Mr Olaniyan said the project would be named after the current I-G, Olatunji Disu, when completed.

In his remarks, the police spokesman commended the PCRC leadership for hosting him, adding that it was a privilege given to him by the I-G to serve as the Force Public Relations Officer.

He said the I-G had demonstrated his commitment to the goals and objectives of the PCRC on various occasions, adding that the leadership of the committee must see it as a commendation and encouragement.

He urged the leadership of the PCRC to remain resilient in its quest to support the Nigerian Police in policing the country.

“I am very intrigued by the activities of the leadership of the committe. If you have not been persistent and patient, the PCRC would have died by now,” he said.

He commended the PCRC for its pledge to provide cameras for police public relations officers nationwide, including his office.

The police spokesman added that the support was timely, considering the fact that it was coming under his watch.
