PENGASSAN Strike: We have enough petrol in stock for yuletide: NNPC

The NNPC has assured that the ongoing industrial action by energy workers in the country would not disrupt the nationwide distribution of petroleum products.
NNPC chief Mele Kyari said Tuesday evening that the corporation has over 2.9 billion litres of PMS in stock for the yuletide season.
A statement issued by NNPC spokesman Kennie Obateru said “fuel stations and petrol depots in the country have enough stock of products to service consumers and are open for business.”
The statement added: “While expressing hope that the industrial dispute would be settled amicably, Kyari assured that the corporation has thus far emplaced a stock of over 2.9 billion litres of petrol to guarantee seamless movement of people, goods and services across the country in the forthcoming Christmas season and beyond.”
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) commenced an indefinite strike Monday over disputed irregularities in the Federal Government-imposed centralised payroll system, IPPIS, Peoples Gazette reported.
The striking workers are also protesting the undue retrenchment of their colleagues by multinational oil corporation Baker Hughes.
The mass action had heightened fears that the forthcoming Christmas and New Year festivities will be marred by severe fuel scarcity.
The Gazette, however, gathered that the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has yet to decide on joining the strike in solidarity with its sister union.
“We are still consulting at the national level to see the next step to take as regards the ongoing strike by our sister union”, NUPENG National Treasurer Alex Agwanwor was quoted by the Punch to have said on radio Tuesday afternoon
