The Dong Community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State has appealed to the police authorities to establish a police post in the area to tackle kidnapping and  insecurity generally.

The District Head of Dong, Kaze Nyam, made the appeal on Monday in Jos when a member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mark Na’ah (APC/Jos North West), visited the community.

Mr Nyam, who spoke on behalf of the residents, decried the absence of a security presence, which he said emboldened criminals to operate freely, putting lives and property at risk.

The district head noted that several families had suffered losses due to kidnappers who took advantage of lack of security personnel in the vicinity to perpetrate nefarious acts.

Similarly, a community leader, Clifford Nenfort, also appealed to the government and the police command to urgently intervene by deploying security personnel to Dong.

Mr Nenfort stressed that a functional police post would not only deter criminals but also restore the confidence of residents to go about their daily activities without fear.

In his remarks, Mr Na’ah, decried the incessant cases of attack in Dong.

The lawmaker said that Dong was a community in Jos and not in the hinterland and wondered why the perpetrators would not be apprehended to face the law.

He called on security agencies to work efficiently in forestalling the incessant cases of kidnapping in the community.

Two persons were kidnapped on Sunday night, and a ransom of N50 million is being demanded by the kidnappers.
