Police arraign Benue man for wearing military T-shirt

A Benue state resident, Victor Memga, was on Monday docked in an Upper Area Court in Makurdi for wearing a military T-shirt.
The Prosecution Counsel, Veronica Shaagee, told the court that the case was transferred from the Headquarters of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Makurdi, to the State Criminal Investigation Department, on May 5.
She said that on May 3, a patrol team led by one Ekwuokenye Jo, while on routine patrol in Zaki-Biam, Ukum LGA, arrested Mr Memga for wearing a military T-shirt.
She said that during the police investigation, the defendant confessed that he wore the T-shirt.
The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of Section 135 of the Penal code of Benue 2004. The defendant pleaded not guilty in court.
The Magistrate, Dooshima Ikpambese, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 and one reliable surety in like sum. She adjourned the case until June 30 for hearing.
