Police arrest cop for culpable homicide in Benue

On June 26, the policeman, James Aondona, engaged in an altercation with one Aondohemba Terkula, which led to the resident’s death.

The Police Command in Benue has arrested James Aondona in connection with a case of an alleged culpable homicide in the Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of the state.

A statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Sewuese Anene, said preliminary investigation revealed that on June 26, Mr Aondona was properly briefed on his schedule of duty and posted to an observation point at Ngibo, Kastina-Ala.

Ms Anene said he decided to engage in an altercation with late Aondohemba Terkula, which led to the latter’s death.

“The corpse has been deposited at the General Hospital in Kastina-Ala LGA.

“Commissioner of Police Wale Abass condemned the unprofessional conduct of the officer involved and ordered that further investigation be carried out,” Ms Anene said.

She further said that Mr Abass assured the state’s people that justice would be served, stressing that disciplinary procedure had already begun for onward prosecution.
