Police arrest Ikechukwu ‘IVD’ Ogbonna over wife’s death

The police command in Lagos has nabbed Ikechukwu Ogbonna, aka IVD, over the death of his wife, Abimbola Martins.
“Contrary to claims by family and friends that 37-year-old Ikechukwu Ogbonna aka IVD is on the run, he has been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba,” tweeted police spokesman in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Monday.
In an online post, Oyindamola Martins, the deceased’s brother, accused Mr Ogbonna, a businessman, of killing his sister, alleging repeated domestic violence.
“We did everything this matter didn’t start from now it started form when she was 18 years droping out of school and giving him all her school fees,” @oyindamola.martins posted on Instagram.
On Saturday, Ms Martins reportedly set alight their Lekki home and was affected by the fire. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.
Mr Ogbonna in a video on Instagram, Mr Ogbonna alleged that his deceased wife was destructive, disrespectful and violent, claiming she had hit and injured him.
“See what she did to me? She just hit me right now. This is me bleeding. I won’t take this,” he said. “My greatest hurts will be at my funeral, everyone will be like, Bimbo was such a fantastic human, a clown, she’s that one person you had on your sos call, she had the biggest heart, very smart, she looked out for her family. Bobby yen yen yen, my corpse will wake up and shout ‘Shut up all of you and put me inside the ground let me be with the lord.”
The post had since been deleted.
Meanwhile, the Martins family are demanding justice.
“As you may be aware, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, Abimbola Martins passed away after suffering fatal burns in a fire incident at her Lagos home. It has been a heartbreaking period for her parents, siblings and particularly her children. It is a tragedy that nobody should go through, especially in the painful manner her life was cut short and at the hands of a husband she dedicated her life to,” said the family statement.
They accused IVD as the perpetrator of “this dastardly act.”
“As the family tries to come to terms with this terrible loss, we want to appeal to members of the public to join us in demanding that justice is done,” added the statement.
