The police command in Anambra says it has arrested two suspects over the killing of an 80-year-old woman in Ihiala LGA and recovered a motorcycle belonging to the victim.

In a statement on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that an investigation had begun after receiving a complaint about the incident at about 11:30 p.m. on April 2, 2025.

Mr Ikenga said, “Today, 8th April 2025, the Ihiala Divisional Police Station have in custody one Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, all males from Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala, over the murder of an 80 years old woman.

“The victim, late Mrs Theresa Igbojonu of the same village, was tied on both the legs and mouth before her murder. Meanwhile, a black CG motorcycle allegedly stolen from the deceased has been recovered.”

He also disclosed that a joint security team had, during a patrol in the area on Saturday, apprehended Mr Igboanugo, when the deceased’s son sighted the stolen motorcycle being driven by the suspect along Ezego junction in Ihiala.

“Upon interrogation of Chidiebere, the Security Operatives acted swiftly yesterday 7th April 2025 and arrested Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, whom Chidiebere mentioned as part of the gang that committed the crime,” said the statement. “Further information revealed that two other suspects known as Alla and Emeka, currently at large are part of their gang members.”

Police commissioner Ikioye Orutugu ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka and intensified efforts to arrest the suspects.
