Police conclude intelligence training for 55 officers in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force, on Saturday, concluded a two-week training programme for 55 officers from its Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
This was disclosed in a statementby the force spokesperson, Ani Iniedu, who said the training was organised in collaboration with the British High Commission.
The ceremony was graced by Colonel Richard Hoyobe, representing the British High Commission and serving as Deputy Head of the British Defence Staff West Africa; AIG Akoh Gabriel, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Counter-Terrorism Unit; and DCP Maina Mamman, Deputy Commissioner of Police, CTU.
“The comprehensive programme certified participating officers in advanced Intelligence and Close Quarter Battle (CQB) courses, focusing on tactical operational planning, and practical room clearance techniques, all vital components of counter-terrorism operations,” he said.
Mr Gabriel, who represented the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, thanked the British High Commission for its unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s national security framework.
He said more than 140 CTU operatives had benefited from British-coordinated training programmes in recent months, including 30 personnel trained in Côte d’Ivoire and 110 trained locally in intelligence and tactical combat skills.
Mr Gabriel urged the officers to lead the fight against terrorism, banditry and other security threats while strictly upholding professionalism and respect for human rights.
