Police impose curfew in Kwara ahead of LG elections

The police command in Kwara has restricted all vehicular movements from midnight to 6.00 p.m. on Saturday to ensure a secure and smooth conduct of the local government elections in the state.
The command’s public relations officer (PPRO), Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement issued in Ilorin on Friday, said exceptions would, however, be given to some persons.
According to her, exceptions will be given to persons rendering essential services, such as accredited electoral officials, authorised media personnel, electoral observers, and emergency responders.
“Armed security personnel on VIP protection/escort duties have been restricted from escorting their VIPs to the polling booths.
“We urge all residents to comply with this directive, and we emphasise that any individual found violating the curfew will face the full wrath of the law,” said the PPRO.
She quoted the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, reaffirming his dedication to safeguarding the state and its citizens while ensuring fair and peaceful elections.
“In the event of any complaints, observations, or irregularities at polling units, or if you have any information to share, please, contact the command via the following emergency lines: 0703 206 9501, 0812 527 5046, 08037098886, 08078255661 (SMS or WhatsApp Messages only).
“Your cooperation is crucial to maintaining peace and order during this important civic exercise,” she said.
