Police nab suspected hoodlum, recover firearm in Akwa Ibom

The police command in Akwa Ibom says it has apprehended a suspected hoodlum and recovered a locally made single-barrel gun in the process.
Its spokeswoman, Timfon John, said in a statement that the breakthrough followed a distress call from the public.
Ms John said the command received information on Monday that a suspected criminal, armed with a firearm, was threatening a household at Iton Odoro village in Ikono council area.
She said police operatives mobilised to the location and, in collaboration with the local vigilance group, successfully disarmed and apprehended the suspect without any casualty.
“The complainant told police that he was at home with his family when the suspect entered the compound through the back gate and threatened them with a locally made firearm.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, while the recovered firearm has been secured as an exhibit,” Ms John said.
The police commissioner, Baba Azare, commended the public for their cooperation and support.
