The police command in Anambra State has recovered an AK-47 rifle from the roof-top of a residential apartment under renovation at Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, made this known in a statement on Friday in Awka.

Mr Ikenga said that operatives of the command leveraged on information from residents to recover the rifle at Ihuowele Ngo Village on Friday.

He said, “The Police Command in Anambra State leveraging on necessary information from the good indigenes of the state on July 11, 2025, by 12:30pm recovered an abandoned AK-47 rifle in a residential apartment under renovation at Ihuowele Ngo Village, Igboukwu, Aguata LGA of Anambra State.’’

Mr Ikenga said that preliminary investigation indicated that one Samson, allegedly identified as a notorious individual and a former occupant of the apartment, might be connected to the weapon.

According to him, Samson has not been seen in the area since June 2024, and efforts are currently ongoing to track and apprehend him.

The PPRO said that the state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the vigilance of the community members and reiterated the importance of community-police collaboration.

Mr Ikenga said the commissioner urged the public to continue to provide timely and actionable information that would aid the police in delivering on its mandate of protecting lives and property.
