The Police Service Commission (PSC) said plans have been concluded to decentralise the recruitment process of its staff and all categories of police officers with the acquisition of a new portal.

The Head of Press and Public Relations of PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, said this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

He said the decision to decentralise the process followed a meeting of the commission with representatives from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to him, with the plan, recruitment desk officers from the states will be allowed to play key roles during the 2025 police recruitment.

He said with the plan also, the stakeholders – the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Character Commission – would have access to the portal for inclusiveness and transparency.

Mr Ani said it would also help to prevent corruption and nepotism in the system.

He stated, “The commission, for the first time, on Thursday, held a consultative meeting with the primary beneficiaries of its recruitment, officers in charge of recruitment from the 36 states and the FCT. Far-reaching decisions were taken on how best to improve and consolidate efficient, transparent, accountable and equitable recruitment in the country.

“To give effect to this development, the commission will dedicate this new portal to ensure a successful and inclusive recruitment for both the commission personnel and that of the Nigeria police.’’

He enjoined the public to note that, going forward, police recruitments would be done using the commission’s recruitment portal with state officers playing significant roles.

Mr Ani said the portal would be opened immediately after the commission concluded plans to commence the 2025 recruitment.
